Ubuntu 12.04 doesn’t have a root account to login. It is a precautionary measure to prevent any mistakes by people logging as root. A small mistake as an all powerful root user can make your system inoperable. However the root account can be enabled if we need it. Here’s how we can enable root account in Ubuntu. Open the terminal and type the command “sudo passwd -u root”. This unlocks the root account. Next, set password to the root account by typing command “sudo passwd root” and entering the password for the root account. Restart the system and we can see our root account enabled.
